Whole Class Guided Reading is our FAV lesson, having made the switch from Reading Stations early last year: Click Here for more!
This particular lesson is based on a report about the red-eyed sea monster. We happened to be writing reports that week too, so it definitely made for better writers once the children had time to understand the purpose of a report. As well as picking apart a report and understand why certain features are used.
This package includes:
- A detailed daily plan allowing you to follow the lessons step-by-step.
- A PowerPoint for reference.
- Daily activities.
- An assessment/feedback sheet to record notes on children's reading.
- The text
- Fluency Frenzy activity- a differentiated activity to keep children's fluency skills sharp.
These lessons are going fantastically and children are making progress daily in their reading skills, as well as in their expression, tone and pace of their reading. The same text is used every day, so the lower ability students get a chance to listen to it being read aloud before they try towards the end of the week.
Key Skills taught
Children are given opportunities to peer assess and self assess each other's work to develop their own ideas and understanding too.
