4 games - Finish the sentence, Getting to know you, Conversation topics and Name a....

4 word documents

Suitable for social skills/SPHE/Circle time.

Finish the sentences: (18 pages) Children read the sentences and finish them applying what is most appropriate to them. All don’t need to be included – read through them and edit/add/take-away as appropriate for your Social Skill group. I used these a lot at start of year and/or at start/end of Social skills groups. They’re good as an ice-breaker and to allow the children feel more comfortable before talking about heavier topics later in the year. I printed out and laminated.

Getting to know you: (12 pages) 37 different questions for children to play in groups to get to know each other better. Children pick them up at random and answer them. Use a timer if necessary, to get more quick-fire answers! Use a “pass” option once or twice if you feel it’s necessary too. This is good at the start of a new social skill group to ease children into talking to heavier topics as they’ll know each a bit better beforehand through fun activities like this – also use these at start/end of social skill sessions. Also useful for whole class circle time or SPHE.

Name a: (7 pages)   Useful for social skills groups for fun/allow children to feel comfortable within group. Play it similar to “Stop the bus” where a letter is picked and all the Name a” cards must be based on this letter. For younger groups, choosing a letter might not be necessary.

Conversation topics: (8 pages) Print and laminate each topic and children pick them up to practise conversation using these topics to guide them. Do this in pairs or small groups.
