Poetry writing frame for wild weather, dramatically illustrated, with example poem for teacher / student support.
Title: Wild, ... Day (gap for another adjective).
First two lines: The wind went... (roaring, raging, slapping, howling, eerily shrieking??) like (an angry beast, charging bull, mad old witch, lonely ghost??). The next two lines repeat the pattern, but for rain this time. The third verse is open for other wild day features, such as thunder, lightning, bending trees, flying washing, dashing people?? A fourth verse is also invited, with space for further, independent developments.
Tips: rhymes are not encouraged, as they can detract from creative freedom and dramatic effect, but rhymes within lines can be fun and easy to add in, such as racing and chasing, moaning and groaning, dashing and flashing. Recommended warm-up: discuss, with picture prompts, enact, elicit action words and simile ideas, read out frame and example, pass round sheets and let pens fly! Perhaps open window for outdoor sounds and movement inspiration too.
