‘The Weather’ is a fully resourced, step-by-step, multi-sensory poem aimed at parents, teaching staff, carers, speech therapists, play therapists, care home workers, activity coordinators, story tellers and librarians, who wish to make stories and poems accessible and meaningful to the lives of individuals with Special Educational Needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, Sensory Processing Disorder, Down’s Syndrome and other learning needs aged 3-19.
The poem is also suitable for preschoolers, nursery and infants.
Engaging and motivating, the stories immerse the listener exploring storytelling through the senses in a fun way using sensory stimuli (story props) to back up the words.
The combination of the sensory stimuli, rhyme and the repetitive structure of the stories forms an excellent base on which to scaffold learning
The poem is told in the first person experiencing the different types of weather, the snow, sun, rain, wind, thunder, fog and a rainbow.
