The children will warm up by playing a game called energy ball. They will stand in a circle and pass an invisible ball of energy to each other.
The teacher will use the teacher in role strategy to take on the role of Mr. Wormwood. The teacher as Mr. Wormwood will explain that business is booming and he wants to roll out a series of television adverts all over the country. The teacher as Mr. Wormwood will enlist the children to make television adverts for him and give them some tips on what to include.
The children will then work in small groups to create a television advert where they attempt to sell a car in a very bad state like those sold by Mr. Wormwood. They will use a cardboard cut out of a car as a prop to help them build the context of their advert.
Methodology: Talk and Discussion, Collaborative and Co-operative Learning, Active Learning.
Assessment: Teacher observation. The teacher will observe children’s ability to suspend their disbelief to engage with the teacher in role, their ability to work in small groups to create a television advert and their use of the cardboard cut out car to build context in their advert.
