Description
This bird-themed haiku lesson plan includes 3 haiku frames and 3 starter lines for more independent writing, along with an introduction to haiku, clarification of what a syllable is, and tips for warm-up activities.
Birds, and how and where they fly, offer huge writing scope, and the 3-line haiku is an effective format for expressive, inspiring writing. The sheer simplicity of the tiny verse highlights its great subject by contrast. Your children will enjoy the challenge of fitting their thoughts into the requisite 17 syllables and reading out their completed haiku.
