A Christmas Carol Re-imagined

Firstly, thank you all so much for your interest in the Script.

This Christmas play is based on the character of Ebenezer Scrooge, a grumpy old man who loves nothing more than making money. Throughout the story, he meets three Christmas Carollers who show him the meaning of Christmas. However, in order to become a better man he must follow each Christmas Caroller, into a different realm to change his devastating future. In each scene, Scrooge is confronted by real life issues witnessed in Irish life, a family made homeless, a family member in hospital and a young man who cannot get a job. At the end of the play, Scrooge redeems himself and aids all those in need. He provides gifts of love, kindness and generosity to all those he comes in contact with and saves Christmas for all.

This play has 37 speaking parts (which could be extended to 50). This play is suited for children from 2nd to 6th class.

I have attached the script, song list and background presentation to help you!

(The song list is made up of songs that were popular at the time of creation, please feel free to change the songs to anything you find appropriate). Enjoy!

Thanks a million Cliona, that’s lovely. How long is it, roughly, including the songs?

Hi Aisling, when I initially created the play in 2018, it took 1 hour and 20 minutes to get through the whole play. However, it really could be condensed down to 45 minutes if you only sing one verse/chorus of each song and overwrite some of the smaller parts. The songs are only suggestions. You may wish to choose songs that are a little more up to date or christmas based for your class 😀

Hi Clíodna, can this play be used for just 20 pupils? Your play looks great. Thanks.

Hi Aisling, thanks so much for your question. It most definitely can! There are 12 main speaking parts and the rest of the characters can be grouped together to suit the needs of your class. I'm actually doing it myself with my class this year and I've only 23 children. (I'm also dropping the price of the plays for October so wait a day or two for a discount if you're thinking of getting it) 😊 I hope this helped.

A beautiful rendition of such a well renowned classic. Children loved performing this tale. Cleverly written so that not only did each child get a part, but each child felt that their part added to the story. A true classic made accessible to even the youngest members of the audience. Well done múinteoir Clíona!!!

A wonderful resource that is perfect for the classroom! The script is inclusive of all children in the class. This is most definitely a great investment as it can be used year after year!
