This is an ideal booklet that can be used to record sounds of the day/week. After the children are introduced to the new sound and we have completed the story and song, games, teacher modelling, blending and oral work around it, the children can take down the words we have come up with from the IWB into this booklet.
As it is Spring time and our sounds knowledge is 'growing' in Junior Infants, this term I have created a flower template where the children write the sound in the middle and the words all around in the petals. I have put an extension activity in to encourage sentence building. As a whole class you could come up with simple sentences with already known tricky words and the teacher could model write them on the whiteboard. The children could then write them into their sound booklets and highlight the sound of the day/ week. This encourages decoding and visualizing sounds in words. I give my class small little magnifiers to go on their sound hunt after the work is complete. They love it!
The children can draw a picture at the end and self-assess their work by thumbs up/thumbs down at the bottom of the sheets.
I made number of copies of the flower template and sentence writing template and complied them into booklets.

This is worth a mention as it saves so much time and saves you stapling lots of booklets together, check to see if your school printer has the staple option available, it gives you two options- (i) one staple in the corner or (ii) two staples along the side. The booklets come out of he printer already stapled and ready to go :)
