English Display: Active Reading Strategies (Fiction Texts)
This display pack is a great addition to Literacy displays from 3rd class upwards. It includes six active reading strategies that can be implemented when reading any fiction text. The strategies could also be carried across and applied in Irish writing as pupils become more familiar with the strategies. Posters have clear legible black text on colourful but minimalist background.
Each poster briefly describes an active reading strategy alongside a code. As pupils read a text they can be asked to include some of the codes e.g. identify a place where they could make a prediction or connection/ identify a word/ phrase they would 'borrow' for their writing. These codes can be used to start a discussion of a fiction text.
