This is an ideal booklet that can be used to record sounds or word endings of the day/week. After the children are introduced to the new sound and we have completed the story and song, games, teacher modelling and oral work around it, the children can take down the words we have come up with from the IWB into this booklet.
As it is Spring time and our sounds/word ending knowledge is 'growing', this term I have created a flower template where the children write the sounds/word ending in the middle and the words all around in the petals. I have put an extension activity in to encourage the children to pick some of the words and put them into a sentence. The children that are capable will work away on their own and this allows the teacher to work with target groups or pupils. This activity can also be used during Literacy Stations as independent work or teacher supported work.
The children can draw a picture at the end and self-assess their work by thumbs up/thumbs down at the bottom of the sheets.
I made number of copies of the flower template and sentence writing template and complied them into booklets. It is now part of our every day routine.

This is worth a mention as it saves so much time and saves you stapling lots of booklets together, check to see if your school printer has the staple option available, it gives you two options- (i) one staple in the corner or (ii) two staples along the side. The booklets come out of he printer already stapled and ready to go :)
