Irish History, War of Independence: a Process Drama
This Irish history product enables the students to learn about the Irish War of Independence experientially. It is process drama, not role play.
It focuses on the effects of the war, from 1919 to 1922, on ordinary people. Additional information is supplied in powerpoint form to give background to the period. This research lists sources at the end. Information is included on people’s clothing, way of life, travel, etc. This is information which is not readily available, especially in a format for children.
There are 5 lessons in the unit.
It uses a variety of drama strategies including Hot seating, Carousel, Group Work.
As process drama requires a lot of group work, it automatically gives the opportunity to enhance communication skills, including engagement, listening and turn-taking.
