When I start my fortnightly plans for a particular theme, I like to start with the theme and a couple of connected reading books before I plan out the rest of the curriculum subjects.

This is the first step to my planning, it is a 5 page plan that includes:

-ideas for activities in all subjects including Learn Together/Religious Education-Hannukah and Christmas are used as the Festivals of the month of December.

-Links for all story readalouds, weblinks for worksheets/art lessons/templates for cutting/recipes etc and basically anything that I will use for the 2 weeks go on this too!

-Notes: My own notes to remind me of how the first day of the fortnight might start. I find this useful as it frames how the fortnight pans out. For example, in this integration plan, I reference KWL/brainstorm bubble before a Winter Nature trail and a scavenger winter alphabet hunt. It reminds me to ask the children to bring objects back from outside for Aistear.

-brief notes on Aistear and how the different areas will work in my mind.

-literacy contains phonics/phonological awareness/free writing/shared reading/high frequency words ideas for what I will cover under the theme of Winter and the books of The mitten/Gingerbread baby/Jack Frost and how they might be used.

Music/Visual Arts-A simple lesson for Visual Arts that can integrate perfectly into the Junk Art area in Aistear. I also make reference to linking maths with music and learn together/religious education.

Vocab-Any vocab for the books and topic of Winter is suggested here too.

Book detals: All the names and summary of books are listed.

I cannot go into any more detail other than this is a way that I begin my planning. I also draw up daily plans with learning outcomes for each subject after this but that never takes me long as this is my first port of call! I find that Infants learn naturally using an integrated approach like this and it also solves the time allocation/subject overload for aistear and child-led play.

Coming up to Christmas, the two weeks before, I like to have lots of fun and hands on curriculum-based objectives and activities as it keeps my class focussed at this busy time of the year.

I hope you get some use out of the way I use integrated planning.

I have attached some screen shots so you get the idea. These are not lesson plans with objectives/differentiation/assessment etc. They will certainly get your creative juices going in the right direction for Winter!
