Pi Day

March 14

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00am on of March, repeating indefinitely

Why is there a Pi Day and why is it on the 14th of March? Firstly, if you put pi as a number to two decimal places, you have 3.14.  On the American calendar, when abbreviating dates, one starts with the month then the date, unlike over here.  The 14th March in Ireland is represented as 14.3 or 14/3 but in America it’s 3.14 or 3/14.  So what can you do with children with pi as a theme?  I’d suggest a few quirky maths classes where you can get out the calculators and find out interesting factoids about numbers.  As a final hurrah, do a mirror image of 3.14 and strangely it reads PIE.
