Mary Elmes: an Irish Hero
Just in time for International Women's Day: Mary Elmes was a humanitarian, who helped children and rescued children during the Spanish Civil War and later during the Second World War. She is the only Irish person to be awarded the distinction 'Righteous Among the Nations' by the state of Israel. Were it not for her, many more Jewish children would have died.
She deserves to be remembered. Our students need examples of true heroes.
