Cutting Shapes Assessment
6 basic shapes to assess cutting straight lines, curved lines and points.
Space for the children to write their name in the middle. Make your intention clear before beginning - cut on the black line, cut outside the black line, cut inside the black line. Whatever you choose, make note of it in your assessment folder to remind you when you look back. There is also a dotted line dividing the two shapes on each page. The children can cut straight across this before they begin to make it easier.
The children can stick the shapes onto coloured paper or the teacher could just collect and store in a poly pocket in their assessment folder.
Scissor skills is something I assess early in September. Some children will be able to hold a scissors correctly and other children may have never held a scissors before. Both scenarios are perfectly fine but we as teachers need to assess to see where each child is at.
