This attractive writing frame offers starter words and phrases for descriptions of different mini beasts and how and where they go, with a simile to finish with, and space for more imagery or other embellishments along the way. Spider, butterfly and ladybird are highlighted, with space for more. (Children can also cross out the given mini beasts and choose their own - these are just given as prompts and guiders.)
Format - phrases with gaps:
A spider goes ... and ... over the ... grass.
A butterfly goes ... and ... through the ... sky.
A ladybird goes ... and ... (two blank lines follow).
Insects are as tiny as...
The prompts call for verbs (doing words), such as crawling, dashing, gliding, wandering, fluttering, darting, sneaking, dancing, skipping - as appropriate. The grass and sky could be of any kind - tall, lush, dewy grass, perhaps, and clear, calm, silky sky, perhaps. Where does the ladybird go?
