PM readers sight words matching activity level 1
I designed this learning activity for a student who showed an interest in and was successful at learning to read with PM-readers but tended to memorise each book rather than reading the words. With the support of this matching activity the student learned to construct a wider variety of sentences using the sight words of the PM-book.
Note: This activity corresponds with the following PM-readers of level 1 : At the toy shop, My pet, Pop’s shed, At the supermarket, At the gym, My friend
This pack contains
- A document detailing my recommended order of reading the PM- books as well as a list of the new sight words of each reader
- Flash cards of sight words
- A matching activity using the sight words (including baseboards, pictures and sight words). Students can actively compose a sentence corresponding with the picture above.

How to use the matching activity:
- Print out and laminate all pages of the matching activity
- Place Velcro in all the boxes on the baseboard.
- Cut out the sight words and pictures and Velcro these.
I made a small bound booklet by cutting the baseboards page into two (see attached picture). I found it works best if you place the velcroed sight words at the back of one page so they appear to the left of the page they are corresponding to.
