Present Exchange Game
This game is ideal for children learning addition with renaming or regrouping. Children take turns to roll a dice and take that number of presents. They use the blank ten frame to store the presents allowing them to clearly see when they have reached 10. This allows children to see they are exchanging like for like. Encourage the children to record their answers as they go along. This gives them a very clear picture of what numbers from 1 to 100 look like. When children reach 100, they exchange their ten frames for a 100. Teachers can choose lower targets to begin with to develop children's ability to recognize numbers.
